Julia Christian Wins The 2005 US Open Of Surfing
Julia is chaired off the beach after the final
The US Open of Surfing’s week long festival came to a close yesterday with tons of action across all divisions including Juniors, Men's and Longboarding. However, the week’s highlight came on Saturday, where Rip Curl's own, Julia Christian, shutout Australia's Rebecca Woods for the Women’s Pro Division Title.
A wave starved final plagued the Women's Pro Division; however, it was Julia Christian's Southern Californian local knowledge that helped her pick off HB’s workable inside corners to solidify the victory.
As the closing seconds ticked down, Christian made history by tallying up a shutout and a huge win on her campaign to return to the WCT. "I'm currently sitting Eighth in the 'QS ratings, so this definitely boosts me into the running," gasps an overwhelmed Julia, feverishly stuffing her pack, "I have to get on a flight to England tonight for the next event."

A notable performance was also put on by Christian’s teammate, Jessi Miley-Dyer, who powered her way into the Women’s Pro Division Semi – Final, earning herself an overall 3rd place. Miley-Dyer along with Christian are both looking to re-qualify for next year’s WCT.
True to her Search for a world title, Julia opted to skip the traditional HB pub crawl celebration for a 20 hour flight over to London to prepare for the Rip Curl Boardmasters WQS Festival taking place at Fistral, Newquay August 1-7th. There, Julia will compete in the Nokia Women's Pro - a 5 Star WQS event worth $25,000.
