O’Neill Cold Water Classic, Day 2
Round of 32 postponed until Sunday
by Annie Allegretti

It was a waiting game on Saturday. At 10 a.m., the girls funneled over to the Lane to figure out where their traveling contest would land. With continued poor conditions, it was announced that the men’s event was cancelled for the day and the women’s heats would resume at noon.

So, with two hours of downtime, a few Australians, a couple Hawaiians, and an overzealous Lauren Sweeney headed to the Fun Spot, the local skatepark at the foot of the Lane, to keep occupied. Katherine Van Dyke of Hawaii played videographer as the girls tore up the park.

Back at the Lane time ticked away, and by 1 p.m. it appeared that the only waves coming in were those produced by crossing watercraft, or the kayaks in the imaginary lineup. The women, too, would have to wait another day to resume competition. Sunday’s event will begin again at 6:45 a.m. Rumors of swell give us hope.
