Some people would think you have it pretty easy. I guess it might sound easy because it’s something that I love to do, and lots of people would love to have this job, but there are a lot of factors involved that could complicate things. Like the waits for perfect weather, bad and/or dangerous snow conditions, injuries, your snowmobile breaking down in the middle of nowhere (in minus-20 degree weather), being away from the ones you love for a long time… And the fact that this is not your typical 8-5 job. You literally eat, sleep, and breathe this job, mostly out of passion, but there are times when you don’t have the choice to put it aside. When it’s on, it’s on! You really have to take every opportunity that’s presented to you.

It seems like there’s got to be a balance in all this. Like anything, you need a break from it or you’ll burn out. Oh yeah, for sure. Besides some mellow Internet stuff, I take the month of June off. I head down to Costa Rica with my girl -- which happens to be you! -- and we surf every day and chill with monkeys. This is important time for me. It’s my break from the snowboard world, mentally and physically. It’s how it recharge my batteries, refocus my energies… I also try to get a bit of time somewhere in my summer to visit my family in Quebec.

Snowboarding is pretty physically demanding. How do you keep yourself in shape? I do yoga sometimes, and I try to stretch as much as I can. I get massages occasionally, but only if I am really messed up. I guess the other sports that I love and do regularly (skating and surfing) keep me in pretty good shape for snowboarding. When I’m bored and pumped, I might do some sit-ups. In the fall I have a few gym sessions to get ready for the season. I also box once a year, starting last year.
