How To Set Up a Skateboard

Step 4: getting the wheels ready
Step 5: adding the wheels

4. Now put the bearings inside your wheels. Slide one bearing onto the truck axle, and then slide one wheel over the same axle. Using the heels of your hands, give the wheel a good push down until the bearing settles firmly into the wheel. Remove the wheel, turn it over, and do the same for the other side. Repeat these steps for your other three wheels.

5. Once you're finished putting the wheels together, you can throw them on your trucks. Slide a nut over each wheel and tighten it down with the skate tool. Make sure you don't twist them flush with the truck, or else the wheels won't spin.

Step 6: fine-tuning your board

6. Now that your board is complete, you get to fine-tune your ride. You may want to make a few adjustments to your trucks to find your comfort zone. Do this by tightening or loosening the nut that holds the bushings in place. The looser your trucks, the easier it is to carve.

You now have your skateboard all ready to go--almost. No deck is complete without a mess of stickers, so slap a few of your favorites in strategic spots on the bottom of your deck. Have fun and shred it up!

Mimi Knoop rides for Osiris Shoes, Nikita Clothing, Tracker Trucks, Velvet Eyewear, and Emerald City.
