The Girl Tour Continues...
April 22, 2003
We got on the road around 1 p.m., after everybody ate. Cara-Beth got a bunch of groceries -- healthy food - and she made a weird meal with some bananas, guacamole, cottage cheese, and hot salsa. We are driving to the city of Rippon; we stopped at Fresco Skatepark on the way, and the skaters there were wondering what was going on. They were asking questions about the tour, as they were very curious about the RV when we pulled over at the park. We skated there for just 20 minutes, then left to hit up Rippon.
At Rippon Skatepark, there is very smooth cement and few skaters. The girls had lots of fun. CB was skating very well -- she had a lot of speed going on and was using the whole space. The same goes for Lyn-Z and Jen, who are very experienced at bowls and big ramps. Around 8 p.m., we started driving to San Francisco to spend the night.

We started out kinda late driving to San Jose, where we were supposed to be at 4 p.m. for a signing at Vans skatepark. We unfortunately got there at 6 p.m. -- having control of nine girls and trying to get everybody at the bus is not easy! We skated there until 9 p.m. Vanessa got to skate some street and pulled some backside lips over the gap to the flat bar... Jen, CB, and Lyn-Z were skating street too -- they looked like they were having a lot of fun. Amy Caron joined the trip at this point. She met us at Vans, and she is going to Canada with us. Now we're 10 people!
Signing some autographs, the coolest thing I saw at Van's was famous old-school skater Steve Caballero's daughter skating. She got a poster signed and was stoked. It was great to see a legendary skater support his daughter's skating.

At the bus all day long. It's been raining so much; pieces of ice on the street, plus the rain, make the road dangerous, but Vanessa is a very good driver. Vanessa is little bit excited on the bus. She screams a lot, and she and Amy don't leave Lyn-Z alone. They mess with her the whole time.

Again, we're on the bus all day until we finally get to Portland, Oregon. In Century City, we went to this Ji Jo store; the guy had every piece of Army gear you could think of, except the guns -- clothes, jackets, boots, etc. CB got a whole setup: pants, shirt, and hat. Jen is the peacemaker on this tour, though, and I don't think she liked the gear.

At 11 a.m., Jen, Lyn-Z, and I had a Roxy signing at Nordstrom. Lisa Whitaker and Susie Floros came with us to film and shoot some photos. We were there for about two hours; it was really fun to have girls to come up and talk to us and ask questions.
After that, we went to skate at Burnside Skatepark, under the Burnside Bridge. As soon as we got there, though, it started to rain. We ended up at an indoor park, the Department of Skateboarding. The place was packed. There were tons of people.
