Dropping In with Andy Mac: The Life of a Pro Skateboarder
July 31, 2003

Review by Marny Harksen
Brace yourself, dear reader--some brow-raising truths about pro skater Andy Mac are revealed in this, his first-time literary effort. He admits he's been a thief (he "borrowed" scrap wood from construction sites to build backyard ramps), an addict (a confessed junk-food junkie), and has cross-dressed for money (he once suited up as Shamu The Killer Whale at San Diego's Sea World). OK, so Andy's life may not be the most controversial, but in a time when so many of our beloved sport heroes are being exposed for their corked bats, creatine intake, or crybaby attitudes, it's a relief to know there are still some good guys out there. Dropping In is almost void of the thrash-punk, skate-or-die mentality that entrenched the sport's heydays in the early '80s--a tone in action-sports journalism long-overdue and most welcome.
