Wild Child
The best-trick contests were no different from the event itself, as guys were throwing themselves all over the place trying to win the $250 offered on each obstacle. One crazy dude even did a bomb drop from a support post about 15 feet above the ramp to score some cash and props from World Cup announcer Dave Duncan, who did a great job of running the event as always.
The Gallaz Skate Jam was no different, as the eight girls who competed laid down good intro runs and skated hard throughout the 10-minute jam session. I've never seen all the girls skate so well. Lacey Baker was working her frontside flips, Patiane Freitas nailed her nollie heelflip variations,
and Violet Kimble smashed herself up like usual trying one gnarly trick after another. That girl brings a new meaning to the word pain.
It was good to see Stephanie Thomas, all the way from Florida, and several of the Gallaz team riders showed up to lend their support to the girls' comp. Lisa Whitaker was on hand to premiere her soon-to-be-released video Getting
Nowhere Faster, while giveaways and a BBQ rounded out the event.

Congratulations to Lacey Baker for winning the girls' comp and a round trip to Australia to participate in the upcoming Gallaz Skate Jam 7. Many thanks to Gallaz/Globe for putting on a great skate event, and to all the folks who worked so hard to make this event a success.
