Lacey Baker earns the coveted wildcard slot at the Gallaz Skate Jam Qualifiers Final Event
by Sasha La Rochelle

After a crazy night of wind/rain/thunderstorms/you name it, the ramps dried out just in time for some awesome, jaw-dropping skating during the finals of the Globe Wildcard Series at the Torrance, California, skatepark.

Sunday, November 21, the top three finalists from each of the previous qualifiers battled it out for the two available spots at the Globe/Gallaz World Cup Pro Skateboard contest in Melbourne, Australia, this coming February. I'm glad I didn't have to be one of the judges, as it would have been so hard to make a decision concerning who gets to go and who has to wait 'til next year. The skating was amazing!

Competitors came from as far away as Toronto and the eastern U.S. to compete in this final event, and all of the guys skated like their lives depended on it. The two who really stood out to me were Magnus Hansen, from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Tyler Hawkins -- brother to Lyn-Z -- from Cardiff, California. These guys were just on for the day, banging out one great trick after another.
