Girl, GIRL

It’s truly rare to pop a newcomer’s CD into your stereo and instantly fall in love with their melodies. GIRL, an up-and-coming band out of Dallas, Texas, has the potential to do exactly that. The unique harmony of this band is fast, smart, and captivating. Under the Twisted Haiku Music label, GIRL has released a self-titled album consisting of four exceptionally distinctive tracks performed by four aggressive musicians, including hardcore gals Judy Hill and Jennifer Paro.
Unlike many pop-punk rock bands today, GIRL is far from cliche. Without a doubt, they’re one of the most vividly intense female-fronted bands around. In a description of themselves, the band mentioned that, “a typical GIRL show is anything but typical, with its unpredictable rages of guitar mania and sweaty enthusiasm bringing to mind the likes of such rock legends as Nirvana [and] The Ramones…with a little White Zombie thrown in just for fun.” The group’s style is almost angry, yet smooth and melodic, much like that of The Donnas, and their instrumental blend, especially the guitar riffs in “Peacepipe,” resembles the funk-based style of Primus. Having opened for such bands as Smashmouth and Village People, as well as performing alongside music diva Cher, GIRL is one passionate rock band who will, sooner or later, inevitably catch the attention of the masses.
