Fabolus, "Real Talk"
by Anna Dimond

Fabolous, “Real Talk”
Atlantic Records

With a diverse assortment of catchy songs produced by a range of industry talents, and a famous featured artist on nearly every track, Fabolous’ third album, Real Talk, plays like a who’s-who of the pop-hop elite. While Fab has a smooth voice and moderately compelling presence in his own right, his collaborations with established pop royalty stretch what might otherwise be a limited musical range into a multifaceted album that bears the stylistic stamps of each featured guest, including Sean Paul’s heavy dancehall rhythms, J. Lo’s smooth crooning, and Pharrell’s flat, electric beats. Buried alongside the massive radio hit “Breathe” and tracks with easy, borrowed hooks, like “Baby,” are surprising and original gems such as “In My Hood.” Given this diverse collection, each song on Real Talk casts the young rapper in a new light and affords him the opportunity to score another hit in his growing cache of chart toppers.
