"Chain Gang of Love," The Ravonettes
Columbia Records
by Erin Brooks
The Ravonettes’ new album, Chain Gang of Love, is a compilation of epic sounds from a Danish duo that rocks with the looks of early Pat Benetar and David Bowie in one. As a sort of pulp, garage-rock band, The Ravonettes’ music is low-toned with a dark, simplistic feel, all wrapped with single, uncomplicated beats and melodic vocals.
With sounds similar to that of The Beatles, a sort of ‘70s rock like The Cramps, and a slight ‘80s influence from The Jesus and Mary Chain, this duo will pack a punch. Plus, the female lead looks so much like Debbie Harry, you have to pick up this record if only to see the eerie yet gorgeous resemblance.
