Halfpipe Hottie: J.J. Thomas
January 28, 2003
by Brooke Geery
One of the most attractive qualities a guy can have is to not boast that he's attractive. J.J. Thomas, a shy pro snowboarder with plenty to brag about, has the humility thing down to a science. With an X Games Superpipe gold medal and a Winter Olympics halfpipe bronze in the bag (both 2002 wins), as well as several awesome sponsors and head-turning riding skills, he doesn't need his good looks to get by.
Birthplace: Fairbanks, Alaska Hometown: Golden, Colorado Birthday: April 6, 1981 Sponsors: Oakley, Ride, Ogio, Right Guard, Celtek, Nestea Cool, Elite Interactive Cards, Breckenridge Resort
SG: What do you look for in a girl? J.J.: Well, being cute helps, but the bottom line is they need some brains, a sense of humor, and confidence.
Do you like girls who snowboard? Snowboard girls are cool. It's just nice if your girl likes to shred, 'cause then on chill days you can cruise with them--and that beats hangin' at the mall or somethin' horrible like that.
What kind of music do you listen to? Hip-hop and dancehall. Really, I like pretty much every kind of music. I'm not too critical, although the super Euro-techno stuff tends to give me slight anxiety after a while.
What's the coolest place you've ever traveled? Norway. I just really like the town of Oslo. It's beautiful, and so are the ladies who live there. When I was there in the spring, the sun never went down. Crazy.
If you could be any superhero, who would you be? If I had to be a superhero, I think I'd go with Spiderman, just 'cause the whole bouncing-off-buildings looks so fun. —Brooke Geery
